The OKR method—implementing PR projects in a targeted manner

Work effectively and efficiently with the OKR method

With many clients and numerous projects running concurrently, structure and methodology are essential. Since this year, we at thepublic have been working to implement our projects even more efficiently using the OKR method. OKR stands for Objectives and Key Results. We agree on overarching goals (objectives) and set interim results (key results) that will lead us to these goals within a defined period of time. We’ll now reveal what’s behind this and how we’ll use it to make our PR even more successful starting in January.

OKR Methods: Objectives and Key Results

“Objectives and Key Results” is a framework that was introduced by Intel in the 1970s and later successfully applied by companies such as Google and Airbnb. OKRs serve to set clear objectives and define key results that must be achieved in order to reach these objectives.

The objectives are the big, long-term goals that a company wants to achieve. They should be inspiring and challenging in order to increase employee motivation. The key results are the specific metrics that monitor progress toward achieving the objectives. They are specific, measurable, and time-bound. OKR is therefore an effective goal-setting tool.

  • Clarity and focus: OKR clarifies what is important. The method ensures that we all understand what goals are being pursued and how success is measured.
  • Motivation and commitment: The challenge of achieving ambitious goals motivates us! Seeing that our work makes a direct contribution to the realization of major goals spurs us on and brings us together.
  • Flexibility and adaptability: OKR sets are flexible and can be reviewed and adjusted at short intervals (usually quarterly). This allows us to be agile and respond quickly to changing situations.
  • Error culture: OKR promotes an error culture in which learning from mistakes is valued. If key results are not achieved, this provides an opportunity to rethink and improve the strategy.
  • Measurability: By clearly defining key results, OKR sets are measurable, which allows us to objectively evaluate progress—and celebrate successes!

Successfully achieving long-term goals—for us and our customers

Starting in January, we at thepublic will be working with OKR to derive our goals and tasks directly from our corporate compass. To this end, we participated in several OKR workshops this year and got to know the tool in detail.

We have defined the values that are important to us and our vision as an agency in a compass. It serves as a guide and basis for our goals. Using the OKR method, we formulate concrete, measurable goals and track our progress in the OKR process step by step in a transparent manner. This allows us to work together even better, support our customers even more efficiently, and work with focus toward the same goal! Would you like to join us? Then apply for one of our open positions.
